Fairy Tail returns with new manga miniseries Re:Fantasia in July 2026
Fairy Tail is officially returning to print. Series creator Hiro Mashima has announced a new manga miniseries called Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia, set to launch on July 29, 2026. It will run in issue 35 of Weekly Shonen Magazine, the weekly manga anthology from the Japanese publisher Kodansha.
The return is a big moment for fans, because it is the first new mainline Fairy Tail manga in nearly nine years. The original series ended in July 2017. The new project also arrives on the 20th anniversary of the franchise, which began in 2006.
Mashima shared the title and a fresh series logo through his official account on X. He framed the project as a short, concentrated serialization rather than a long-running epic. In a translated post, he wrote: "Re:FANTASIA Starting in the Magazine shipping 7/29 (Wednesday)."
The announcement spread fast across manga news sites, including CBR, Anime News Network, ScreenRant, and Game Rant. Each report traced back to the same source, Mashima himself.
The launch date moved up at the last minute. The series was first planned for August, but Mashima and the magazine pushed it one week earlier. CBR reported that the shift came from open scheduling at Weekly Shonen Magazine and faster than expected progress on the work.
Many details are still unknown. Mashima has called Re:Fantasia a miniseries, but no chapter count or ending date has been confirmed. It is also not yet clear whether he draws every page himself or works with assistants and a co-writer.
Fairy Tail ranks among the biggest fantasy manga of its era. The original series ran from August 2006 to July 2017 and reached 545 chapters. It follows Lucy, a young wizard who dreams of joining the Fairy Tail guild, and Natsu, a fire-using wizard whose closest friend is a talking cat.
The story grew far beyond the page. The studio A-1 Pictures turned the original manga into an anime that ran for 328 episodes across three seasons, from 2009 to 2019. The show helped turn Fairy Tail into a global name.
A sequel manga, Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest, kept the world alive after the main story ended. It began in 2018, co-created by Mashima and Atsuo Ueda. The studio J.C.Staff produced a 25-episode anime for that sequel between 2024 and 2025.
The franchise has also stayed busy in games and dubs. Koei Tecmo released the role-playing game Fairy Tail 2 in December 2024 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The long-running English dub featured Cherami Leigh as Lucy and Todd Haberkorn as Natsu.
English readers have a few ways in. Kodansha offers Fairy Tail manga in English through its K Manga app, and Crunchyroll hosts the anime. In Japan, Kodansha also publishes Weekly Shonen Magazine digitally through the Magazine Pocket app.
The debut chapter of Fairy Tail Re:Fantasia ships on July 29, 2026. An official English release plan for the new miniseries has not been announced yet. More details are expected as the date gets closer.
The new series and its release date were reported by CBR and Anime News Network, based on the announcement from Hiro Mashima.
