MrBeast says a $10,000 pizza tip beat giving away a million dollars

3 min read

MrBeast has named a single $10,000 tip to a pizza delivery driver as the most rewarding moment of his career. The YouTuber, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, said the gift meant more to him than any of the million-dollar prizes he is known for. He shared the story on a recent episode of the Flagrant Podcast.

The tip came from one of his early videos, "Tipping Pizza Delivery Guys $10,000," first posted in 2017. In it, Donaldson surprised several drivers with large cash payments funded by a sponsor.

One driver stuck with him. When the man received the $10,000, he barely reacted. Donaldson said he assumed the driver thought the money was fake or that the whole thing was a joke.

The next day, the same driver came back. Donaldson said his first thought was worry. "The next day he came back and I was like, oh God, was he gonna ask for more money," he recalled. "I'm opening the door about to be like, bro, I don't have more money, and then he hits me with that."

When Donaldson opened the door, the driver was in tears. The man explained that he had not believed the cash was real until it sank in overnight.

What he did next is the part Donaldson keeps returning to. The driver took the following day off work, something he almost never did because he worked constantly and had not seen his children in a long time.

"I didn't even think this money was real," the driver told him, in Donaldson's retelling. "I just took tomorrow off work and I haven't seen my kids in so long because I work every day. I just gotta spend a day with my daughter. This is the greatest day of my life."

Donaldson said the moment flipped his mood instantly. "I just 180'd so quick," he said. "Better than when I give people a million dollars. Nothing beats that one." He said the reaction from an everyday worker felt unmatched, even against his biggest giveaways.

Donaldson built the largest channel on the platform on big-budget generosity, from burying himself in cash to giving away cars, houses, and prize money. He recently became the first YouTuber to reach 500 million subscribers, a milestone YouTube marked with a special Diamond Play Button presented by chief executive Neal Mohan.

Pizza has become a small running thread in his videos, including clips built around ordering delivery and tipping far beyond the bill. The stories tend to land because of the human reaction, not the size of the number on screen.

Not everyone took the clip at face value. Some online viewers questioned the timing or the authenticity of the original footage. Even so, the podcast retelling spread widely and drew a wave of positive responses.

Donaldson is still expanding his work, including building out his company, Beast Industries, and his wider creator platform. By his own measure, though, the bar was set years ago by a tired driver, a rare day off, and an afternoon with his daughter.
